Welcome to Isle Abbotts Playgroup
Isle Abbotts Playgroup is a small friendly playgroup
offering a safe welcoming environment where children
between 2 and
5 years can learn
through play. Based at the Village Hall in the
idyllic hamlet of Isle Abbotts, a short drive
from Curry Mallet, Ilton, Fivehead, Hatch Beachamp,
Wrantage and North Curry, Isle Abbotts playgroup
was started in 1982 and has proved to be an important
focal point of the community.
Curriculum
The Early Years Foundation Stage – EYFS
- covers both the Learning and Development and
Welfare Requirements given in the Statutory Framework
for the Early Years Foundation Stage, for children
from birth to the end of the reception year in
school.
*The overarching aim of the
EYFS is to help young children achieve the five
Every Child Matters outcomes of “Staying
safe”, “Being healthy”, “Enjoying
and achieving”, “Making a positive
contribution”, and “Achieving economic
well-being”.
The EYFS is based around four
Themes:
A Unique Child
Positive Relationships
Enabling Environments
Learning and Development
Each Theme is linked to an important Principle:
A
Unique Child
Every child is a
competent learner from birth who can be
resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.
|
Positive
Relationships
Children learn to
be strong and independent from a base of
loving and secure relationships with parents
and/or a key person. |
Enabling
Environments
The environment plays
a key role in supporting and extending children's
development and learning. |
| Learning
and Development
Children develop
and learn in different ways and at different
rates and all areas of Learning and Development
are equally important and inter-connected.
|
The Learning and Development
comprises three elements
the early learning goals –
knowledge, skills and understanding which young
children should have acquired by the end of the
academic year in which they reach the age of five;
the educational programmes – the matters,
skills and processes which are required to be
taught to young children;
the assessment arrangements – the arrangements
for assessing young children to ascertain their
achievements.
The six areas covered by the
early learning goals and educational programme
are found in the Practice Guidance for the Foundation
Stage:
 |
Personal,
Social and Emotional Development PSED |
 |
Communication
Language and Literacy CLL |

|
Problem Solving,
Reasoning and Numeracy PSRN |
 |
Knowledge
and Understanding of the World KUW |
 |
Physical Development

Creative Development

None of these areas of Learning
and Development can be delivered in isolation
from the others. They are equally important and
depend on each other to support a rounded approach
to child development. All the areas must be delivered
through planned, purposeful play, with a balance
of adult-led and child-initiated activities. *
*Taken from the Statutory Framework
for the Early Years Foundation Stage
